What is the Canadian Digital Adoption Program? 

The Canada Digital Adoption Program (CDAP), by the Government of Canada, helps small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) adopt digital technologies to increase their competitiveness. Eligible businesses will receive a grant to build their digital plan and invest in other sectors of their business that help promote digital growth. 

The loan covers items directly related to the digital plan. Some examples are:

• Acquiring IT equipment
• Installation of new technologies
• Updating and/or expanding IT equipment
• Training staff on onboarded technologies
• Materials and support services directly related to onboarding the technology
• Further advisory services on particular aspects of the digital adoption plan

Types of CDAP Grants

There are two types of loans under the CDAP: the Grow your Business Online Grant and the Boost your Business Technology Grant. To see which one your business is eligible for, you must answer a few questions on the CDAP website.

The  Grow your Business Online Grant  helps businesses get up to $2,400 in funding and is specifically aimed at small to medium sized businesses who want to:

• Get online
• Increase sales
• Adopt security software
• Connect with customers
• Improve social media marketing
• Improve user experience for online customers

The Boost your Business Technology Grant helps businesses get up to $15,000 in funding and is aimed to:

• Reduce overhead costs
• Speed up transactions
• Respond to clients more quickly
• Manage inventory more efficiently
• Improve supply chain logistic

How do I know if my business qualifies for CDAP? 

Eligible businesses must be small and meet all the following criteria:

• A for-profit business (including for-profit social enterprises and cooperatives).
• A registered or incorporated business.
• A consumer-facing business and provides in-person services to consumers.
• A business with a minimum of one-employee, other than the business owner ORHad at least $30,000 in annual revenue in the most recent tax year.
• Commits to maintaining a digital adoption strategy for six months.
• Agrees to participate in follow-up surveys, share data about the experience, and have its name published as a grant recipient.

Who is not eligible for CDAP?

Non eligible businesses include

• Corporate chains, franchises, or registered charities;
• Representatives of multi-level marketing companies
• Brokerage firms such as real estate agents, investment advisors, insurance agents, etc.
• Businesses that are engaged in online reselling or drop-shipping reliant on third-party suppliers
• Wholesale or distribution business and manufacturer (unless you sell directly to consumers)

• Fill out the form to create your business account and add your business information. 
• Complete your Digital Assessment (Approx. 5 mins).
• Fill and complete the CDAP Eligibility Assessment (Approx. 5-10 mins).
• Submit a Spending Plan
• Grant Expenditure Submission 
• Funds Distributed
